SUMMER CAMPS 2012
Film Making (2nd-5th grade)
Using Apple’s iMovie students will make a movie while learning how to direct, film and edit. Professional film-maker, Steve Marra, will teach students about video cameras and audio equipment, filming, editing skills and the basics of creating your own “film” by the end of the class. Editing is the real key to making a film and this class shows you both the tools and styles of editing and the artistic decisions an editor makes. Students will work on real projects that they will design and create. Students can bring their own laptops (either Mac or PC) and can bring their own video cameras as well. Students without access to laptops and/or video cameras will be able to share instructor provided equipment.
Camp is held at Christ Church: 815 Portola Road Portola Valley, CA. Enrollment is open to all students 2nd-5th grade. Monday-Friday June 25-29 9:00am-12:00pm. $225.
Build A Short Story (2nd-5th grade)
In this class, young authors develop a short story from beginning to end using Society of Young Inklings’ unique blend of fun and active theatre games, writing activities and investigation of the techniques used in well-loved books. Students learn different elements of short stories such as creating characters and setting, and understanding story structure. Students may go on from this program to apply for our Inklings Book Publishing Program, in which they are mentored through the revision process and then published in our yearly national anthology.
This creative writing workshop is designed to inspire and challenge young writers based on their unique needs and skill level. Group instruction during each session deepens students understanding of building short stories. During writing time, instructors circulate to individualize the learning process for each student.
Camp is held at Christ Church: 815 Portola Road Portola Valley, CA. Enrollment is open to all students 2nd-5th grade. Monday-Friday June 25-29 12:30-3:30pm. $225.
